I started blogging for No Depression, a leading resource for fans of Americana, alt-country and roots music. In addition to blogging, I will be pioneering a series of video interviews with musicians called Backstage with Brooklyn. The first session is recording on April 6. Stay tuned for more!

On the Sound front, I submitted an article about the US Air Guitar Championships featuring an interview with local regional champ, Garth Donald. I’m not positive if it’s going into the magazine at this point, but it sure was fun to learn about competitive air guitar.

A few weeks ago I got the chance to interview Chase Jarvis (big shot photographer/director) and Michael Hebberoy (renowned artsy restaurateur) about their Songs for Eating and Drinking series. The project, which brings local musicians together over food, is gorgeous to look at (Jarvis films and photographs the whole event) and has produced a number of thrilling collaborations. Look for this article in the April issue of Sound.

I just posted a new live review of the Champagne, Champagne/Matt & Kim show at Chop Suey last Thursday. It was dance party madness! Ch-ch-check it out!

Also, the February issue is on newstands RIGHT NOW! My writing can be found on page 11 (Around Town), page 49 (The Block), page 65 (calendar piece for 2/8), page 67 (calendar pieces for 2/9, 2/11 and 2/13), page 69 (calendar piece for 2/24) and page 71 (Review of the Month for Mad Rad’s White Gold). My byline doesn’t appear on the album review, but I assure you that those are my words!! Pick up your copy of Sound today, and I’ll keep you posted on my very exciting pieces in the March issue.

I have some thrilling projects in the works at Sound this month that I just have to share with you all. First, tomorrow I have an interview with feminist superstar, Carla DeSantis, who is responsible for the wonder that was ROCKRGRL magazine. This is my first time interviewing someone that I sort of idolize, so I am very nervous, but of course very excited at the same time. Also, I have been interviewing local artists who are headed to SXSW in March about the rapidly approaching festival, which has been lovely, as I have been able to connect with so many bands and get my interviewing chops up a bit. Finally, I just scheduled an interview with Weekend to profile them for the magazine. They are a new band that just played their first show this week, and feature the talents of Mark Gajadhar of Blood Brothers, Past Lives, and Champagne Champagne fame (am I leaving anything out? Mark is in like every band in Seattle!!) and Ryann Donnelly from Schoolyard Heros. I’m looking forward to seeing them play on Saturday and talking to them about the new project.

Three Imaginary Girls have recently posted my blog post about the new solo album from Gina Young (Gina Genius from magnificent Seattle feminist/queer hip-hop duo Team Gina). You can check that out here. Unfortunately, I have been totally behind the ball on TIG stuff, so haven’t written anything new for them in a while.

In other exciting news, Sound published the January issue a few weeks ago, and my work can be seen littered throughout the mag. Look for my byline on pages 65 (calender pieces for Jan 13 & 18), 67 (calendar pieces for Jan. 20, 21, 23, 28, 29, & 31), and 69 (album review of Hair Envelope). Exciting stuff! I will have even more to report when the February issue comes out in a few weeks!
